What is follow a vocation, particularly a clerical or religious vocation, all about? Often times it will be answered as serving people, all people or only God's people. Wrong. As laudable as serving people may be, that is philanthropy not the Christian vocations. The Christian, particularly the cleric or religious, serves God first and foremost. "Love God above all things." Then because God loves all people, pleasant or not, like ourselves or not, we then love and serve those God loves. I believe a lack of primary focus on God is responsible for much of the trouble the Church, her members, and her institutions find themselves in. God must be our intense, primary focus so that His grace can flow to us and through us into the world.
