Practice For My Dream Job.

This weekend is my parish's annual Media Fair (used book and DVD sale). Every year, I have the privilege of going through items before the sale to remove heretical and/or objectionable materials. Into the trash went one copy of The Passover Plot and two copies of Dick McB's (anti) Catholicism. Yo ho ho, tis the inquisitor's life for me!

I'm surprised you did not make a purifying fire, Father Pyro!!

I don't think throwing them in the garbage is a good idea, it might contaminate the garbage.

Surely McBrien's book deserves a call to the EPA concerning the superfund for properly destroying hazardous materials.

On my way into the Church when I was reading everything in the library I could get my hands on I read his "Catholicism" and even though I was a real novice I knew there was something wrong with it. He seemd to spend more time undermining then explaining.

You know, it's so WONDERFUL to hear about a priest who cares enough about Church tradition and teaching to remove misleading crap before someone gets a hold of it.

You shall be our next Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. Feel free to employ the use of any medieval contraption you find useful. .

I think this video shows us exactly how Fr. R would handle his inquisitor duties:
She's A Witch

Ah, crud. You haven't thrown out the garbage yet, have you, Father? I'll gladly take those books off your hands and give them a proper online reaming.

You know, Father, that Dominicans were the Inquisitors, for they handled the proceedings fairly and saved many lives from the SECULAR governments that killed people.

So...if you feeled called to be an Inquisitor, is it possible that you may ALSO be called into the Dominican charism? Granted, you're a diocesan priest, but you can still become a 3rd Order Dominican...

I'm just sayin'....

As a Sci Fi Catholic and archaeologist, I can in no way condone the burning or other destruction of books.

When you destroy books, generations later, people start to wonder what was in those books, and then they decide, with no evidence, that those books must have been very wise and full of great secrets. Then when an archaelogist uncovers copies of said books, they are found to be quite ordinary and to contain what level-headed people guessed they contained anyway, but the myth of the books is so strong that people go all swoony over them and claim that at last great, ancient secrets have been revealed.

It's much better to catalogue the objectionable books so you can take them out when necessary and say, "See? There's really nothing particularly great in here!"

(anti) Catholiism by "Fr." McB should be on the fireplace :)

I'm rather perturbed that those books used to belong to Catholic parishioners...

And that whole burned books hiding juicy secrets thing... I think I'll make a post on that.
